Here are some of the recent questions I received via e-mail that I thought might also be helpful to others. I did not include the questioners' identities.
Howdy! I was curious if you could possibly point me in the right direction based on the answers to some questions…..
Money is a motivator but only to an extent. I have a lot of debt (thanks to an oh so wonderful ex) and I am living at home right now. I want to be in a spot where I can pay my bills and save money and have a little in my pocket. I don’t care to be overly rich or anything but I don’t want to be just barely making it as I am now. I’m in a crappy situation right now as I think I want to go back to school but I have no idea what I want to major in. I want to leave my current job but I don’t know for what. I am getting to the point of depression over my financial situation and as much as I try not to let it bother me, my mother is the type to sh*t on every idea I have. I’m sorry, I didn’t email you to vent about my current situation but more to see if you could help me to shed some light on how to find something that will make me happy and fulfilled.
To be honest, it's hard for me to answer what will make you happy. What do you think would make you happy to go to work every day? Is it helping others? Do you like business and sales? Do you simply want to work as little as possible to have more time to yourself?(and that is okay too!)
If you have an idea of what would make you happy let me know. Even if it is a vague idea it is somewhere to start.
In the meantime, I'll just throw out some ideas-
Medical transcription you can do from home and it only takes a little training for a low cost. MT's make about 40K per year and you can work from home.
Perhaps you'd like to start your own business. You can join an MLM (such as Tupperware, Mary Kay, and there are tons more- there is an MLM for any type of product or service you can think of). You can work for yourself but still have the support of your peers. Some people do get rich from MLM's, some people earn a decent living, others do not succeed at all. It all depends on you, your sales skills, and your persistence- in my opinion.
You can train to be a personal coach. Again it is shorter and less expensive than college. The only glitch is you have to find clients! You can work online a lot utilizing sites such as Kasamba.com.
What are your interests? What did you originally want to do with your life? If you do need college, you really can get financial aid or, at the very least, a loan that you make small payments to monthly after you are finished with school. Your pay should increase at least enough to cover the loan costs but it will probably increase a lot more.
Nursing is a great field to get into if it interests you. Physical and Occupational Therapy are really big right now too. Around here, the pay is around 30-40 dollars per hour if you work through an agency. It's just a little less if you work for a company but that is because you have employee benefits.
You can always start your own business entirely.
Right now I think the key for you is to find what you love. Think on what will make you happy. Imagine your ideal life- what would you be doing every day? Whatever the answer to that is probably holds the key to your life's purpose! Try to share your ideas only with those who cheer you on in the beginning. A new venture and idea is fragile, especially when we are as well. The last thing anyone needs is to have their ideas crushed before they even get started. Even though it is hard not to share with loved ones, if they do not share our enthusiasm it is sometimes better to keep it quiet until we get started and our confidence increases.
Let me know how else I can help!
Hello, I am looking to work for a company from home. I want to be their employee, be on their clock, get paid by the hour that sort of thing. Is there anything out there like that? Can you help me? I appreciate your time
A lot of work from home is on an independent contractor status but here are some jobs off of the top of my head that are employee jobs.
